From April 2000, a system of "enhanced management" of vocational training in general practice has been introduced. Essentially, it means that the Director of Postgraduate Education in General Practice plays a more direct part in the recruitment and selection of GP registrars.
The theory is that the directors will know the availability of posts in their region and will advertise select and appoint to fill these. This is intended to provide more uniformity of standards and to ensure equal opportunities. At the same time the total funding for the training transfers to the directors, allowing more flexibility and encouraging innovative developments.
It is still wise to carefully consider and select the area you would like to go to for your training, and we hope that gpregistrar.co.uk and gptrainers.co.uk will help you with this.
